How To Make Toddler’s Swimming Activity Safe And Fun?

Thursday 27 November 2008

Does your toddler really love his/her bath? You can enhance their love of water by teaching them to swimming.

However, it is not guaranteed that all toddlers who enjoy their time in the bathtub will necessarily adjust quickly to the swimming pool.

As a parent, it is essential for you to be with him/her when they are in swimming pool to assist them.

Swimming with your baby should be an enjoyable experience for both you and your baby. Here are a few swimming pool safety tips for you to make it a joy-filled activity.

Don’t forget to use a safety flotation device

When your toddler is entering into the pool for the first time or if your toddler is not comfortable wearing a life vest, use safety flotation devices.

Choose appropriate swimming wear

When your baby is swimming, swim nappies and nappy covers are a great help to your baby. While it is not always compulsory to wear them, it is always a good idea to wear them.

Avoid extreme sun exposure

As your baby’s skin is very sensitive to sun, it should be protected well to avoid damage. Apply sunscreen lotions [Baby Lotions] with the highest SPF factor at least 15 minutes before swimming.

Natural Cold Relief Methods For Your Newborn

Monday 24 November 2008

I had a friend who constantly tries to breathe through her mouth, making a hoarse noise while doing so, because she suffers from nasal congestion.

She goes through a lot of agony and gets breathless rather quickly when she has to exert herself, because she has cold and her nose is blocked and she is not able to take a proper deep breath.

If she, as an adult, feels that nasal congestion is simple and plain torture, then what would a newborn baby feel like if her nose was blocked and she was unable to take deep breaths through her nose?

Nasal congestion may sound like a simple issue, but it can in fact prove to be extremely dangerous for a newborn infant, because it would not only cause fatigue and irritability, thereby hampering normal growth, but also cause sleep apnea, which causes temporary moments of not breathing when the newborn is asleep.

The baby’s sleep quality would be affected, and this in turn would affect all other areas of her development, including her growth, speech and hearing development and so on.

Adorable Outfits And Accessories For Baby Boys

Saturday 22 November 2008

Boys are rough on their clothes as they play hard. So, when you consider a boy’s clothing you should think about durability and stain resistance.

Apart from this, little boys grow quickly, so you have to consider the growth of your baby, while shopping for clothes and other accessories.

However, it is not difficult to find the right clothes for your baby boy. Like girls, baby boys have many options when it comes to clothes and accessories.

Little Giraffe Luxe Hooded Jacket

If you are looking for unique baby clothing, this luxe hooded jacket will be a better option. The cozy hood, furry ears and satin lining of the jacket give extra comfort for your baby. Also, satin doesn’t cause any harm to your baby’s smooth and sensitive skin.

Other than cream, you can go for pink or blue, depending on their sex. Particularly useful for your baby in fall.

How Do You Bathe Your Newborn Safely?

Thursday 20 November 2008

You have come home with your very own special bundle of joy.

You have willingly assumed the great responsibility that comes with having to take care of a newborn baby, and you would naturally wish to carry out this important task to perfection.

You have heard that your baby needs to be bathed, but you are naturally apprehensive about the entire process. What do you do?

  • No matter what method you use to bathe your baby, remember, NEVER leave your baby unattended in the bath for even a few minutes. We have all heard countless stories of babies drowning in their baths, even though their mothers left them alone for just two minutes, to attend to the doorbell, or to bring the bathing soap into the bathroom.
  • Always measure the temperature of the water with the inside of your wrist. The water must neither be too hot, nor too cold. Also, make sure that there is no chilly draft blowing into the area where you are bathing your baby[Baby Bath].
  • Always make sure that you bring all the bathing materials like soap, Baby shampoo, towels and so on before or when you bring your baby inside. Do not leave the baby in his bath while you go out to collect them.

How To Take Care Of Your Baby’s Skin During The Summer?

Monday 17 November 2008

All that bright sunshine outside, and you want to go out and enjoy it.

You do not know, however, if it is all right to expose your baby’s skin to this brilliant sunshine, with no protection whatsoever, or if you must expose your baby to some sunshine: after all, you have heard of Vitamin D and you have some idea that you can only get it from direct sunlight.

What do you do? Can you take your baby out into the sun or not? Can you use sunscreen for your young baby? Will it do any harm? How else can you protect your baby’s skin during the summer?

Remember, your baby’s skin does not produce enough melanin for protection, and therefore, you must provide the protection that your baby’s skin needs during the hot summer months.

Here are a few tips that will help you along:

  • Make sure that your baby is kept fully clothed when you step out of your house, and that no part of her skin is exposed to direct sunlight. Not only are the sun’s rays harmful because they cause sunburn, but you are also putting your baby at risk for melanoma, a hazardous form of skin cancer, caused by direct exposure for prolonged periods of time to the ultra violet rays of the sun.

Taking Care Of Your Newborn’s Eyes

Thursday 13 November 2008

I know you cannot stop admiring this perfect thing that you have managed to create, the perfectly formed little features, the beautifully shaped ears, and the little tufts of hair that reminds your mother of your brother’s when he was a newborn, those oh so perfect toes and fingers, and what about the finger nails? The eyes? Awesome, I agree!

However, you, as a young parent, must learn how to take care of your baby, especially the most delicate part of all, his eyes.

Those tiny windows to the soul need to be kept clean and healthy at all times, and you must learn the skill of using a small soft cloth or a cotton ball dipped in some clean water on your baby’s closed eyes.

Always remember to wipe the eyes from the inside to the outside, and use separate pieces of cloth or cotton balls for each eye so that you can prevent infection, if there is any to start with, from spreading from one eye to the other.

It is true that some babies are born with blocked tear ducts. More often than not, there is no treatment needed for this: all you have to do is maintain hygiene by wiping away the tears that keep rolling down your baby’s cheeks, using a soft cloth.

Breastfeeding Can Boost Babies’ Lung Function

Tuesday 11 November 2008

The physical effort of sucking milk during breastfeeding may leave babies with stronger lungs as they grow up, scientists said.

Researchers from the University of Southampton and the College of Veterinary Medicine in Michigan State University, carried out a 10-year study of 1,456 babies from the Isle of Wight.

They found children who had been breastfed for at least four months had stronger lung function in later childhood.

A third of the children had been breastfed for at least four months, and on average, these children could blow out more air after taking a deep breath and could blow it out faster.

This happened regardless of whether their mother was asthmatic or suffered from allergies.

The scientists say this could be because of the effort of sucking during breastfeeding.

Dr Syed Arshad of the University of Southampton said: ‘What they are doing is very similar to the kind of exercises we suggest for pulmonary rehabilitation in older patients.

‘Breastfeeding for at least four months significantly increased lung function in later childhood and this effect was in addition to the reduction in wheeze, that was observed in the Isle of Wight birth cohort, in early childhood.’
