Here are some pointers to keep in mind:

Ask around and research al your possibilities – ask around with friends and relatives, neighbors, and even do some online research.

Does the center have the requisite permissions and accreditations for what they do?

Make a list of your priorities so you know what you’re looking for and what’s an absolute no-no. Cleanliness and safety and caring professionals are of course important, as may be proximity and the policies of the establishment such as the care provider to child ratio.

Do the preliminary checks by making some phone calls, and those that sound promising, you can visit to find out more and get a feel of the place.

Trust your instinct as well as that of your child. If you have a good feeling about the place and the people who run it, it could be worth listening to. Also take your child along to see if he or she takes to the place, other children there and if he or she makes some rapport with the care providers.

Expecting mothers are often very confused about how to provide the right gifts for their child. It is generally difficult to know the authenticity of each and every product[baby product] in the market.

There are no actual means of knowing that the product you are gifting to your newborn is really safe for him/her or not. The most commonly gifted products for the infants are the newborn baby dolls.

Now, when you search over the internet or in the local market near you, these newborn baby dolls are available in plenty and also of different qualities.

To suffice your apprehensions about the safety factor of these dolls and to get the right thing for your newborn, spare a minute to read this so that you can completely be sure of the pros and cons of newborn baby dolls.

Firstly, when you buy these newborn baby dolls it is very important to know the quality of the product. There are different set of dolls available for all kids ranging from the age group of 0-4 months to 4-9 months.

The reason for the new born baby dolls to be split into these groups is the amount of weight that this toys have and also the materials that are used while making them. It is very important to choose the right one, as the wrong material of the doll can hamper the safety factor.

It can be highly disastrous if you hand over any doll made of plastic or any such equivalent material that would end in choking or any other side effects if your newborn uses it.

It is understood that kids usually have a habit of placing all these toys in their mouth and you may not be available to keep watching on them every second.

Also, some of the low quality of materials that are used in these newborn baby dolls can cause allergies and skin rashes on the soft and tender skin of your newborn.

If your toddler is once accustomed to the toys[toddler toys] then he would definitely go to the cradle with them. So you need to be absolutely sure about the toys as they are in very close proximity with your child throughout.

Secondly, if you buy newborn baby dolls which are even slightly heavier for your kid to handle then they are bound to injure their tiny toe or any other body part. They could also burst out crying when they don’t know how to play with it. These dolls are always not 100% safe for your babies so just be very careful when buying any of them.

You can obviously buy those soft newborn baby dolls that your baby can cuddle and play with. These soft toys would be good companions for your kids and as the age group of the kid advances to the 4-9 months list then you can be sure that your kid wouldn’t have any harm when crawling his/her way with this soft newborn baby dolls in his/her hands.

It should always be remembered to buy newborn baby dolls whose parts are not fragile to the movements made by the toddlers.
To ensure the safety of your newborn, make sure to do your research thoroughly before buying newborn baby dolls. They may be great toys for your baby but some may contain harmful elements like small parts, toxic materials, and more which can definitely cause accidents and sickness.

Are you giving some deep thoughts to introducing your baby to a swimming class? If the answer is yes, then you will find this article really helpful. Swimming is a great physical activity that comes as a package of fun and good health being a very rare combination your baby can find in the first years of life.

I have seen many parents doubting the choice of enrolling their baby for swimming for some reasons like security and proper guidance. There’s no need to get worried if you are cautious about certain crucial aspects.

Before plunging into the depth of the topic let me remind you that your baby may not become a super swimmer until it is two or three years old. The child may like the water but may not co-operate to the fullest in the initial stage. Give the baby some time to get used to the water so that he becomes relaxed and confident. Be open for this and make the time worth-while with some fun activities in the water.

Age factor must not become a barrier. It is for you to decide when the baby must try on swimming. Health experts pose no objection in a baby’s swimming activity at an early age but I would suggest that you wait until your baby gets few months old, like four to five months.

This is when the baby will have their immunity developed to the fullest. Noisy surrounding may startle the baby so it is safe introduce him or her to the pool noise only after your baby gets few months old.

I don’t think that swimming costumes are compulsory for babies in some pools but some insist that they should have one on. So, better have one with you.

Consider swim nappies as a good buy. Swim accessories like water wings are not suitable for babies younger than a year. There are other suitable accessories available for the kids which may be suggested by the instructor. Find out whether the swimming pool has necessary amenities for child care such as pushchair, changing table and playpen.

Carry with you a warm bottle to feed the baby after the swim, a towel with a hood, a snack as swimming may leave the baby famished, playthings and books, a nappy bag and some bath toy of the baby.

Get the baby used to the water and let them build the thought that bathing time is a fun time. Splash some water gently on the baby’s body or lay him on his back and move him back and forth.

Pool selection is important, the least crowded it is the better it is for you and the baby. If you are uncomfortable going alone get a friend to come with you. A friend by your side will keep you and the baby relaxed. Remember that it is a good idea to go down to the pool with the baby and have maximum fun with the water toys and bubble blowing activities.

The last but not the least you should check the pool for the safety aspects. The temperature should be between 84 degrees F and 86 degrees F.

Start off with a 10 minutes session and slowly extend the time later. If he shivers get him out and wrap him gently. Do not take the baby for swim if he has a cold. Make sure that the chlorine does not cause skin problem.

These small but significant safety measures are crucial to give your baby a fantastic experience.

Many of us have probably heard about the miraculous story of Kate Ogg and her baby in Australia, who witnessed a miracle that saw a newborn baby come back to life 2 hours after being declared dead by use of the “Kangaroo Care Method”.

It is a story that could bring tears to the eyes of the most cold-hearted; Kate Ogg gave birth to premature twins, Emily survived, Jamie was declared dead.

However, the mother decided not to give up, she held the baby against her bare skin.

Long minutes later, the little baby stirred showing his first signs of life! Then the mother offered some breast milk on a finger and then two hours later, he opened his eyes!

Kangaroo care is a technique practiced on newborn, usually preterm, infants wherein the infant is held, skin-to-skin, with an adult keeping the baby warm, stimulated and secure.

This sort of care is also seen to lessen rates of infection, and illness, help the baby sleep well and also reduce the risk of hypothermia. There is also greater maternal satisfaction and confidence by virtue of this method, and it also increases the chances of the baby being breast fed exclusively.

It is an interesting question and one that gets asked all the time, but parents desperate to get their newborn babies to sleep – is it a good idea to rock baby to sleep or to stop them crying? Will it spoil them, will they get used to it, and will it become difficult for the parents at a later stage?

While in times past the answer would have been that this will spoil the child, it would be different today, when we understand better the security and comfort needs of a tiny little newborn baby who is still getting used to being on the outside.

It is still getting used to feeling air on its skin, hearing loud noises, far from the warm, watery protection of the mother’s womb.

For the first few weeks, the baby ought to be given all the soothing comfort that he or she needs. Rocking them to sleep or rocking them when they cry is not something a parent should deny them; perhaps later at about 6 or 8 weeks the parents can start to introduce the concept of self-settling helping the child get to sleep by themselves.

The bottom line is, you cannot spoil a child younger than 3 months or have them learn bad habits, so go ahead and rock baby as much as you or the baby wants.

Child proofing or baby proofing your home is primarily for the safety of your baby but it can also help to prevent damage and accidents being caused to your home appliances (think fridge left open for hours and the spoilage that can result, for instance).

This is particularly important for those stay at home parents who work from home.

Typically you are likely to have lying around at least some equipment which you would rather did not get tampered with – whether you have a separate room to call your office or whether you have created a space for it in one of other rooms.

Here are some ideas for childproofing your home office:

Outlet Plugs help keep busy, prying little fingers from going where they shouldn’t be – into open electrical sockets. When you’re not using an electrical outlet, use these easy to install plugs to protect your child.

A child safety latch will help you keep documents, CDs and computer peripherals secure. Any harmful items can also be stored there so baby cannot get his little fingers on them. The push down catch is self locking and easy for adults to use but difficult for little fingers.

Also to protect important items and keep them as well as anything dangerous out of baby’s reach, you may also consider these cabinet safety slides. These will prevent little fingers from prying open cabinet doors and drawers.

A PC tower protector will ensure that naughty little fingers don’t go switching off the computer and losing your valuable data and work.

Take care of your baby’s head from the sharp table corners with table edge bumpers.

When you’re working you don’t want to have to worry that the baby will get into the bathroom and into trouble – that is where this toilet seat lid lock may come in handy.

Your work time may often coincide with baby’s TV viewing time; in which case baby will be watching some TV unsupervised. To protect your LCD, LED or plasma TV from scratches, finger prints (which may have just been dipped in some cereal) and to help deflect thrown toys and remote controls, you may want to consider this TV Screen Protector.

This is a useful product for a parent to keep tabs on their baby – a Child Locator – to alert you when your baby goes out of the 25 foot range. Will help you concentrate on your work as baby does his or her own explorations!

A power bar protector for the various wires and cables that go in and out your computer can help to keep your computer cables from getting tangled and in order and also prevent access to babies.

Parenting can be overwhelming for so many different reasons and it is necessary for parents to just relax a bit. Becoming a parent is supposed to offer untold joy, happiness and fulfillment but parenting can also be messy and really grim.

Parenthood can swamp you in feelings of responsibility and you may well want to escape.

You wonder how you can possibly do it all right for that tiny scrap of life that is so completely dependent on you, and you are under tremendous pressure to do it ‘right’. It can take over your schedule, leaving you with little time for yourself.

Where there is great tenderness for the little baby, it can also be accompanied by great despair. There is in fact greater emotional distress and depression among parents of young children than there is among childless people.

In parenthood there is stress, worry, financial strain, lack of freedom, pressure on a marital relationship as well as the pressure to ‘hyperparent’ to produce as enriching an environment for the baby as possible.

So yes parenting can be exhausting, and it is OK to admit it!

Unlike adults, the brain of an infant acts like a sponge that will take in everything at every opportunity it may have for learning, even while sleeping! This was proven when a researcher from the University of Florida conducted a study on infants to identify those that may be at risk to have developmental disorders like autism and dyslexia.

The test was conducted by playing different tones followed by a gentle puff of air to the eyelids.

After 20 minutes of the test, the same set of music was played; this time without the gentle puff, but, 24 out of the 26 babies squeezed their eyes after hearing the same sound when the gentle puff of air was done. This shows that even in sleep they can associate the sound and movement in their environment.

To further confirm the results, an EEG was also done to the 24 infants and showed brain activity and changes evident of memory updating, evidence that learning took place. They learned of the response reflex to respond to the tone and the eyelid movement at the same time the certain music was played during the test.

This test can serve as a non-invasive option in detecting possible developmental disorders in infants who did not register any learning while conducting the tests. Although this test is not confirmatory, it can give an insight and future framework for future studies on this subject matter.

How many times do you have to wake up at night to change the newborn baby diapers? And how many times are you awakened by your baby’s cry when he feels uncomfortable with his newborn baby diapers. When your baby is having a discomfort with his diapers, it causes a lot of distress to both parents and babies.

Baby diaper rash may be brought about by certain reactions of your baby’s skin to the quality of newborn baby diapers you are using or reaction to urine and stool when they come in contact to the skin.

It is an irritation to the part of the baby’s skin covered initially by newborn baby diapers.

Regardless of how the skin rash is brought about, we cannot deny the fact that its total discomfort does not pay off whatever the comfort the newborn baby diapers bring to you and your baby.

There are ways to prevent diaper rash and stress at the same time.

The most effective way to prevent diaper rash is keeping the baby’s skin dry. Redness and irritation usually occurs when the skin is covered for a long period of time while it is wet. Keeping it clean and dry prevents microorganisms to dwell which mostly are attracted to moist and dirty areas.

From the word itself, diaper rash is caused mainly by newborn diapers. If you can at least avoid using newborn baby diapers in a period of time that means you limit the use of it when it is not necessary. Using newborn baby diapers frequently is keeping the skin of your baby covered all the time and creates moist.

Wipes are sometimes a big help for convenience when cleaning the baby. However, most often, it even irritates the skin of your baby because it contains chemicals that are not suited for your baby’s skin. You may choose soft cloth to clean the affected area instead.

Cleaning the skin of your baby with warm water really helps. It lessens discomforts for your baby.

Using powder might also help. You might need to check on the most hypoallergenic powder though. Using powder lessens friction when your baby is using a newborn baby diaper, thus preventing redness and irritation.

If you cannot avoid using newborn baby diapers, check on the most suited diapers for your babies which are available in the market. You may also consider its size to that of your baby.

It is always recommended to avoid plastics pants. It locks in moisture and creates an environment for microorganisms.

As parents are worried about their babies, babies are primarily the ones affected by diaper rash. When diaper rash becomes uncontrollable and cannot be treated in simple ways, you may consult your paediatrician to give the baby proper medications in serious cases.

The secret to preventing diaper rash is simply keeping the skin dry. Babies should enjoy these years more than the stress diapers cause to them. You can now say goodbye to baby diaper rash and sleep better at night.

Having taken a decision for circumcision of a baby – whether based on religious considerations or tradition – or based on medical considerations – parents need to ensure that the procedure is performed in as safe and medically sound way as possible. This not only reduces the chance of an accident (accidentally snipping off more than required), but also infection.

Only a trained medical practitioner should be permitted to perform the procedure using proper sterile and aseptic procedures.

The child should be healthy and stable and there should be no medical reason why the circumcision should not be performed.

Genital abnormalities, bleeding problems, etc are reasons not to circumcise. Also jaundice etc in a new born should be allowed to clear up before circumcision is performed.

Typically infant circumcision is performed on babies between the 2nd and 10th day of life. For pre-term babies this should be done just before being discharged from hospital

Firstly one must understand what happens when circumcision is performed – this procedure requires foreskin to be removed by cutting. Also there are several methods by which infant circumcision is performed which can be considered when deciding upon this:

The Plastibell method involves the foreskin and the glans are freed and the foreskin is put over the Plastibell device. The foreskin is then tied firmly and the ligature is inserted into the groove of the device to stop blood flow.

The foreskin is cut and the device falls off after healing – about 4 to 6 days. Additionally the surgical clamps such as Gomco clamp and Mogen clamp method may also be used for circumcision. The Mogen clamp is thought to offer the best cosmetic result.

After circumcision follow the instructions of the practitioner for proper care and healing of the incision such as:

An antibiotic ointment may be prescribed to ward off infection

Clean the general area several times a day with warm water.

Petroleum jelly (fragrance free) can be applied after each nappy change – ask the practitioner about what is safe and appropriate.

Special care of the area is require for about a week to ten days after the procedure – this is approximately the time that it take for a proper scab to form over the wound and for that scab to fall off. Once the scab falls off, no more care than normal hygiene is usually required

When the baby visits the hospital the next time, he should be carefully examined by the practitioner or doctor for normal healing
