Hi, my child is 15 days old and in the last 3 days she stopped breathing once every day. She is now being monitored in the hospital. They told me it can't be apnea. Because it started when she was 12 days old. They say if it is apnea it should have started from day one. I told them I smoked during pregnacy and that I believe she hasn't correctly developed the part of the brain which controls her breathing but they keep insisting it has nothing to do with that. They told me it could have something to do with the breast milk (to liquid) so they are now thickening it for her. they checked her blood, urine, heart and brains. If the results show nothing and she keeps breathing normal for the next two days, they will release her from the hospital and they told me they can't do anything else for her. What can I do?

Hi Godwin,

Newborns sleep as much as 16 hours per day or even more. If your baby gets up for every 3 or 4 hours for milk, then there is no need to worry. You should not allow your baby to sleep more than 3 to 4 hours continuously without feeding. If at all she is not waking up for longer time, take her to the pediatrician.
